Friday was my daughter's birthday party. Six, maybe seven, sugar saturated pre-teens spent the night outside in a tent. Thankyou weather gods. Other family members attended and stayed through the weekend. When not volunteering at the rodeo we spent alot of time at the river where we could let the dogs run free.
The two Great Danes and the Boxer had some friends with them, a Golden Retriever and her son that was the result of a breeding to a Lab. Five medium to giant sized breeds went frolicking into the thick yet flimsy growth around the river bed. When I heard voices nearby I immediately went to fetch the dogs as they tend to scare people who don't understand their easy going personalities.
Upon locating the group of animals I was happy to see the people were not scared. The mature group of tourists admitted that at first they were frightened by the noise (What kind of wildlife do they have around here, they must have been asking themselves) but after seeing the cause of the sound they laughed.
Variations of this story happened all weekend when time permitted.
