What a Weekend!
A friend of mine has allowed be to take her dog out for walks with wishes of good luck as he is oblivious to authority. His exact breed is questionable but I think it is fair to assume that he is part rottweiller, a bit lab, possibly some german shepard..... you get the idea. The first time we went out, just the dog and I, control of his head movements seemed to be the key to keeping his attention focused on me and what I expected from him. Sporadically throughout the walk I would stop and/or ask him to sit. Once these simple commands were easily followed we worked on the sit/wait (then I put distance between him and myself while still holding the leash), when he stayed sitting and waited for me to ask him to come I would pet and tell him he was a good boy. On our way home, after a twenty minute walk, he was trotting happily beside me with a loose leash. To date I have only taken him out twice but experienced great success both times. This is so much fun!!
